American Eagle Platinum coins are the official Platinum bullion coins of the United States. In 1995, the director of the U.S Mint, Philip N. Diehl, along with notable leaders in numismatics and Platinum, started the legislative process to create the first U.S. Platinum bullion coin.
Production of the 1 oz Platinum American Eagle, along with fractional sizes, was authorized by Congress in 1996. In 1997, the patriotic Platinum coins featuring the Statue of Liberty and a soaring eagle were released as the first and only official investment-grade Platinum coins for sale from the United States government.

The reverse depicts an eagle soaring over the horizon with the sun in the background with the weight and purity. The obverse shows the close-up bust of the Statue of Liberty.
