Each coin contains 1 troy ounce of gold. From 1986 to 1989, the reverse of these coins portrayed various Australian gold nuggets, hence the name Australian Gold Nugget even till today. After the year 1989, the design was changed to feature Australia’s most famous marsupial, the kangaroo.
