The Australian Gold Kangaroo, also known as the Australian Nugget, is a highly regarded gold bullion coin produced by the renowned Perth Mint. Struck from 1/2 troy ounce of 999.9 fine gold, the 2015 edition continues the tradition of combining artistic design with investment-grade purity. Originally featuring gold nugget imagery from 1986 to 1989, the series transitioned in 1990 to depict the iconic kangaroo, a symbol of Australia’s wildlife and heritage.

Kangaroo Design
The reverse side of the 2015 coin features a classic depiction of a kangaroo standing alert beside a fence on a rural property, encapsulating the spirit of the Australian outback.
The design is encircled by inscriptions denoting the year, weight, purity, and “Australian Kangaroo.
The obverse showcases the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, designed by Ian Rank-Broadley. Surrounding the portrait are the inscriptions “Elizabeth II” and “Australia,” along with the coin’s denomination.
Australian Legal Tender
Issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965, the 1/2oz gold coin carries a face value of 50 Australian Dollars.
