From 1986 to 1989, the reverse of these coins portrayed various Australian gold nuggets, hence the name Australian Gold Nugget even till today.

Gold Content

Each Australian Gold Nugget contains 99.99% pure gold.

Kangaroo Design

The 2016 1 oz Gold Kangaroo features a kangaroo resting on its haunches with the silhouette of another kangaroo in the background, along with the inscription “Australian Kangaroo,” the “P” mintmark, date, purity and weight.

The obverse of each coin shows the Ian Rank-Broadley likeness of Queen Elizabeth II, as well as the coin’s monetary denomination, $100 AUD. Each Gold Kangaroo coin is held in a plastic capsule.

Australian Legal Tender

The coin is issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965.
