The 2017 Lunar Rooster Gold Coin 1oz is part of the Royal Mint’s Shengxiao Collection, which celebrates the rich heritage of the Chinese zodiac. Struck in 999.9 fine gold, this coin marks the Year of the Rooster, the tenth animal in the 12-year Chinese lunar cycle, and showcases British craftsmanship with Chinese cultural symbolism.
Designed by British-Chinese artist Wuon-Gean Ho, the reverse features a majestic rooster standing tall, crowing confidently in a traditional farmyard scene. The detailed feathers and strong stance represent the rooster’s qualities of punctuality, confidence, and hard work. The Chinese character for “Rooster” is included alongside the inscription “Year of the Rooster 2017”.
The obverse displays the fifth coinage portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Jody Clark, highlighting the coin’s British origin and status as official currency.
