In 2011, The Perth Mint’s renowned Australian Lunar II Silver Coin Series celebrated the Year of the Rabbit, the fourth animal in the twelve-year cycle of the Chinese zodiac.

Those born in the Lunar Year of the Rabbit are believed to be gentle, quiet, and elegant, with a keen sense of responsibility. They are known for their kindness, quick wit, and a love for a peaceful life. The Rabbit is compatible with the Goat and Pig but should be wary of the Rooster. Other Years of the Rabbit include 1999, 1987, 1975, 1963, 1951, 1939, and 1927.

Lunar Rabbit Design

These 2011 coins feature an elegant depiction of a rabbit, a symbol of luck and tranquility in Chinese culture. The reverse design depicts an adult rabbit and a young rabbit.  The rabbits are surrounded by foliage and a tree with creepers entwined in its branches. The Chinese character for ‘Rabbit’ and the inscription ‘Year of the Rabbit’ are prominently displayed, along with The Perth Mint’s traditional ‘P’ mintmark.

The obverse of the coin carries the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, accompanied by the monetary denomination.

Australian Legal Tender

The coin is issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965.
