In 2012, The Perth Mint’s celebrated Australian Lunar Silver Coin Series honored the Year of the Dragon, the fifth animal in the twelve-year cycle of the Chinese zodiac.
Individuals born in the Lunar Year of the Dragon are often regarded as dynamic, ambitious, and passionate. They are believed to bring good fortune and are admired for their confidence and enthusiasm. The Dragon is compatible with the Rat and Monkey but should be mindful of the Dog. Other Years of the Dragon include 2000, 1988, 1976, 1964, 1952, 1940, and 1928.

Lunar Dragon Design
The 2012 Gold Lunar Year of the Dragon features a traditional Chinese dragon, a long, scaled, serpentine creature with four legs, and a “pearl of wisdom” and the Chinese character for “dragon.”
