The Australian Silver Kookaburra series of coins is an ongoing issue of beautiful .999 fine silver bullion coins from Australia’s famous Perth Mint that celebrates one of the country’s great national symbols: the Kookaburra. Native to Eastern and Southern Australia, these iconic birds are the largest members of the Kingfisher family and are known across Australia for their distinctive song and for the tenacity with which they defend their nests. Since their introduction in 1990, Silver Kookaburras have been prized by collectors who eagerly await the unveiling of a new design each year.

Original 1990 Kookaburra Design
Within a beaded border, the reverse design of the coin shows a kookaburra bird perched on a tree stump sheltered by leaves, with a fern visible below.
Around left, the inscription AUSTRALIAN KOOKABURRA. Around right, the precious metal content: 1OZ. 999 SILVER(one troy ounce of 99.9% silver).
The coin’s obverse bears the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II , and the monetary denomination.
