The Year of the rat coin is the second in the second series of Chinese Almanac coins first released on 2 January 1993 by the Board of Commissioners of Currency, Singapore.
The second series of Almanac coins was designed by Dr Elsie Yu, a local artist and sculptor, using traditional Chinese paper-cut style. Interwoven with the decorative background is the symbolic icon normally associated with each of the animals.
Produced by Singapore Mint and issued by the Monetary Authority of Singapore.
