Description
The Majestic Emperor Penguin is largest of all penguins, growing to around 1 metre tall. Like all penguins, they are well adapted to the Antarctic cold. Once common, Emperor Penguins are now regarded as near threatened due to climate change & over-fishing.

The coin is expertly struck by The Perth Mint from 99.9% pure silver in specimen quality. The coin has a limited mintage of 7,500.
Design
Obverse depicts the image of Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain, the inscription “ELIZABETH II”, “AUSTRALIA” along with information on the date of issue of the coin and the face value of the coin. The designer of the obverse was J. Clark.
Reverse shows an adult penguin and a baby penguin standing on the edge of Antarctic ice. In addition, the reverse side bears the inscription “EMPEROR PENGUIN” and information about weight, purity of bullion.

The coin is issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965.
