This 916 Gold Proof Coin issue from Hong Kong has a face value of 1000 Hong Kong Dollars and commemorates the Chinese Lunar Year of the Pig.
It is minted at the British Royal Mint and the coin’s obverse features the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II.
This thousand-dollar gold coin series was first minted for the Queen’s visit to Hong Kong in 1975. The coin proved popular, as they were minted each year until 1987, and a few memorable years after that.
