As a native Australian tree-dwelling marsupial, a koala can spend as many as 18 hours a day napping and resting. Well adapted to its surroundings, their thick woolly fur protects them from both the heat and cold, even acting as a raincoat in wet seasons. In an ideal habitat, male koalas can live for approximately 10 years, while females may live a few years longer.
The coin is struck by The Perth Mint from 1 kilogram of 99.9% pure silver in proof quality.
Issued as Australian legal tender, the coin’s obverse depicts the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the year-date and the monetary denomination.
The coin’s reverse depicts an adult koala sitting on the branch of a eucalyptus tree surrounded by gum leaves. The design also includes the inscription AUSTRALIAN KOALA, The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark and the 2013 year-date.
Extremely limited, The Perth Mint will release no more than 500 of these Australian Koala 2013 1 Kilo Silver Proof Coins.
