Kangaroo Design

The coin’s iconic design portrays a bounding kangaroo surrounded by stylised rays of sunlight. Inscriptions on a wavy-lined border include ‘AUSTRALIAN KANGAROO’ and the coin’s weight, purity, and year-date. Within the artwork is the inscription ‘RED KANGAROO’, and The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark.

The coin’s obverse depicts the Dan Thorne effigy of His Majesty King Charles III.

Australian Legal Tender

The coin is issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965 and has the face value of 1 Australian Dollar.
