Description
In 2014, The Perth Mint’s internationally renowned Australian Lunar II Silver Coin Series celebrates the Year of the Horse, the seventh animal in the twelve year cycle of the Chinese zodiac.
Those born in the Lunar Year of the Horse are said to be energetic, bright, warm-hearted, intelligent and able. Seek the tiger, dog, and ram, but beware of the rat. Other Years of the Horse include 2002, 1990, 1978, 1966, 1954, 1942 and 1930.
Specimen Quality 99.9% Pure Silver
The coin is struck by The Perth Mint from 99.9% pure silver in specimen quality.
Lunar Horse Design
These 2014 coins offer a beautiful representation of a horse family: a mare and her young foal. The reverse features the two horses within a stylized Chinese landscape. One is taking a drink from a stream, while the other looks off into the distance. The Chinese character for ‘Horse’ and the inscription ‘Year of the Horse’ also appear in the design with The Perth Mint’s traditional ‘P’ mintmark.
The coin’s obverse bears the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on its obverse, and the monetary denomination.
Australian Legal Tender
The coin is issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965.
